PRACTICAL WORK / CONNECTED FOUNDATIONS

Embedded & RTOS foundations

Move from bits and C++ lifetimes to registers, interrupt boundaries, FreeRTOS and CMSIS.

A concrete outcome

Explain and test task/queue, interrupt and recovery contracts using the supplied native or emulated exercises, then identify the target-specific work needed for a real board.

This is a learning sequence. Your course map shows the actual prerequisites and readiness for each lesson.

  1. Understand representation and ownership

Start with binary, signed representations, bounded values and C++ resource lifetime.

  2. Connect software to the target model

Study startup, MMIO, interrupt priorities and CMSIS interfaces. Hardware-specific addresses and toolchain setup belong to the target’s lesson.

  3. Coordinate work with an RTOS

Follow task scheduling, queues, priority inheritance, ISR handoff, timers and failure recovery.

  4. Review the interfaces and failure boundaries

Apply the relevant bounded-interface and ownership checks; keep target timing, hardware testing and resource limits explicit.
